![]() The Kneipp Kur
In the 1800’s, Sebastian Kneipp developed the 5 pillars which were the basis of the Kneipp Kur. The pillars included water, plants, nutrition, exercise and balance. These elements combined were used to develop hydrotherapy treatments w/ herbs that could lead to a healthier lifestyle and improved well being. Kneipp's Kur was the combination of comforting and strengthening hydrotherapies with medicinal herbs. Water therapies including the use of temperature fluctuations through affusions, ablutions, wraps, packs, etc. help to build vitality by toughening up the body. Circulation improves, blood is purified, resistance improves, thus reducing susceptibilty to infection. Essential oils added to water unfold their calming or stimulating effects. Kneipp's Kur also included exercise and rest/ a healthy diet/ and body-mind balance. A Kur typically meant “regular” treatments, either at home or in a clinic, for at least a 2 week period. “Inactivity weakens, exercise strengthens, excess harms.” - Sebastian Kneipp |
